PocketTV - Play an MPEG file

To play an MPEG video file with PocketTV, you can do either of the following:

Use
Tools > Open...

Tap the Open icon.

Open the file from the File Explorer (tap a file to open it)
The standard Open File dialog only shows the MPEG files located in the My Document folder and in one level of sub-folder under it.

On Pocket PC 2002, you do not need to create a My Document top-folder on Storage Cards, but the standard Open File dialog only shows the MPEG files located in the top folder of the
Storage Card and in one level of sub-folder.

To open MPEG files located elsewhere, use the File Explorer or set Tools > Options > Files > Open with tGetFile to use another
Open File dialog that can open files located in any folder.

By default PocketTV plays the file as soon as you open it. To change this, un-check Tools > Options > File > Play at Open.

Use Tools > Options to hide/show the Status Bar.

The Status Bar indicates:

The elapsed time i.e. the current position from the beginning of the file.

The total time. Total time and elapsed time are
only approximations based on the file size and average bitrate.

The actual framerate (fps = Frames per second). This is the average fps since play started. It is updated every 5 sec.

The
bitrate. The is the average total bitrate (video + audio). To see the video and audio bitrates, use Tools > Properties...

Back to the Table of Contents
Use Tools > Options > Audio to display or change Audio Settings.

You should use High Quality only when using earphones, as it requires more CPU resources and may cause video to play at a lower fps.

In general we recommend to use the Medium Quality setting.

Swap Left/Right swaps the right and left stereo signals. It should normally not be checked except on some iPaq 3650 units manufactured before 2002 that have left/right audio signals inverted due to an incorrect wiring of the earphone jack. If you hear inverted stereo signals, use this option to correct the problem.

Pre-amp is a software booster that amplifies the audio signal, possibly causing distortions. You should use it only when the audio levels encoded in the file are too low.

Using Pre-amp: If you push the Volume higher than the maximum using the Up cursor button, it will trigger the Pre-amp feature. The Pre-amp booster has 8 levels.

Canceling Pre-amp: Pre-amp will stop as soon as you set the volume to less than the maximum value.

Use Tools > Options > Size to display or change Size Settings.

Auto will scale down the image if it is is too large to fit on the display.

Nominal (fast) always play at the nominal size, i.e. it
will never resize the image. This is the fastest.

Fit Screen will always resize the image to fit the display size.

Scaling is slow and will reduce the performances noticeably, so we recommend using Nominal (fast) for best performances.

Use Tools to display or change the Fast Video Setting.

The Fast Video option allows faster and smoother video rendering but may not work with some devices and cause undesirable effects on the display (e.g. screen sometimes not refreshed properly).

Fast Video is effective only when playing video at Nominal Size (i.e. parts of the image will be cropped if it is larger than the display area).

Fast Video should be selected at all times unless it causes problem on your device.
